6 Ways to Stay Healthy and Fit in Flint, MI

We enjoy seeing our patients here at Lifetime Urgent Care. We also enjoy seeing them get better. Sometimes we don’t see a patient again for a long time, and often that’s because they took our advice about living a healthier, happier life! We’d like to offer you some of that advice. Here are 6 ways to stay healthy and fit in Flint, MI so you won’t have to come see a doctor quite as much.

1: Sleep well

Sleep can have a great affect on your physical and mental health, and according to the Mayo Clinic, many of us aren’t getting enough sleep. Sleep can affect metabolism, mood, memory, motor skills, and more. It can even affect our immune systems and cardiovascular health. Sleep is also an excellent healer for the body, and sometimes it can help you in ways urgent care clinics just can’t! So be sure you’re getting sound sleep every night, and about 8 hours of it.

2: Eat healthily

We all know this one, but so many of us don’t practice it. Fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, and low-trans-fat dairy and meats should be the main part of our diet. Beans are an excellent source of lean protein over fatty meats. Sugary, salty, greasy, fatty, or processed foods taste great, sure, but are unhealthy. We promise that the more you eat healthy foods, the less you’ll crave unhealthy foods.

Also, avoid overeating until you’re too full, and give yourself time between meals to fully digest your food. An apple a day isn’t quite enough to keep the doctor away, so eat healthily, regularly! Drink lots of water too!

3: Exercise regularly

Many of us hate to do it, but exercise helps our bodies immensely. Even a regular walk can do wonders. Cardiovascular exercise, like walking and running, helps to strengthen the heart and lungs. Strength training, like weight lifting, strengthens our muscles and improves circulation. Both of these types of exercise are vital. Doing them regularly can even help us combat depression.

4: Control your stress

Stress is part of all our lives, but we can mitigate it. If we don’t, it can cause heart problems or other issues. Exercise can help us with stress, and so can meditation. In fact, meditation has been shown to be an amazing stress reliever, and the more we practice it, the more often we can destress right on the spot.

Being in nature and enjoying our favorite hobbies can also help us alleviate stress and its harmful effects on the body. Also, don’t overwork yourself at your job. Take breaks and vacations as though your life depended on it, because sometimes it does.

5: Habits are huge

A habit is a wonderful thing because the more often we do it, the less often we have to remember to do it. It becomes automatic. This means that with practice, we can create new, automatic habits for ourselves. We can also train ourselves out of bad habits.

Some of the habits we want to ditch include smoking, excessive drinking, unsafe sex, and any other addicitons. Sometimes addictions can be difficult to detect, like obsessive thoughts or rumination. But we have to notice these things and get help with treating them. You can speak to us here at Lifetime Urgent Care if you’re suffering from an addition, and we’ll help you.

Some of the great habits we want to adopt include being proactive and seeing the doctor regularly…

6: See the doctor regularly

Get your regular checkups and yearly physicals. Usually, insurance will cover much of the cost, so there really isn’t any reason to avoid a regular doctor’s visit. Sometimes a trip to the doctor can be inconvenient, but here at Lifetime, we can also provide checkups or physicals. Get any suspicious moles checked out right away, and get a full examination once a year.

And there you have it: 6 ways to be healthy, active, and fit. We hope you found our tips useful.
